ADU Designs For You

ADU Designs For Older Homes

We deliver ADU designs that blend with your home- because you don’t want it to stick out like a sore thumb.

The most common Backyard Dwelling (ADU) designs available today are modern and rectangular. A rectangle is the most cost-effective design to build and the modern style is popular in today’s culture.

Importance Of ADU Designs

Is a modern rectangle the right fit for your home? Often times it is not. Southern California homes built between 1920 and 1965 often have a distinct personality and it is not modern.

I sold homes for many decades. Any home that had mismatched remodeling or additions sold for less than a home with consistent design throughout. No one loves a Franken-house.

The best remodel or addition blends with the original home. It doesn’t need to match, but it should have the same tone and personality.

Best ADU Designs For Historic Homes

If your home was built before 1960 it probably has a distinct personality. Maybe it is Spanish style or it is a Craftsman. There isn’t always a common label for your home’s style, but it is more than a boring box!

Here is how our ADU designs complement some or our most common architectural styles.

Casita ADU Designs

The Casita ADU

Our Casita option features a stucco-look exterior and a simulated red tile roof. The site-built version of the Casita has actual stucco and red tile roof options.

This ADU design is best for Spanish, Mediterranean, Monterey Colonial, or Adobe. It also works well for newer construction homes that are called Mediterranean.

Retain the standard shingle-style roof and this ADU design works well with Traditional, Post War Bungalow, and Georgian.

The Cottage ADU

Ah, the romance of a charming Cottage surrounded by English Roses or drifts of lavender! Pick this design if your home is a Craftsman, Bungalow, Arts and Crafts, Cape Cod or English Tudor.

The sides feature a cedar shingle look that is the perfect backdrop for an exuberant garden or white picket fence.

Ranch Style ADU Designs

The Ranch Style ADU

Your Ranch style home might feature stucco walls or it might have board and batten siding, but it definitely has that California Dreamin’ vibe.

Our most popular ADU design is for you. It spots a vertical board and batten design that blends well with Traditional, Ranch, California Ranch, and Post War Cottage. If you are a fan of Magnolia Farm, this is the ADU design for you!

Mid Century ADU Disigns

The Mid-Century Modern ADU

The Mid-Century Modern ADU design is the perfect partner for those coveted post and beam mid-century homes. This is all about light, air, and feeling a connection to the outdoors.

We are still finalizing details and renderings, but the sketches look super cool! Stay tuned!

ADU Designs Floor Plan

Floor Plan Is Important For ADU Designs

Multiple Sliding Glass Doors

We include multiple doors in our ADU designs. Obvious they let in light and air, but that isn’t the most important reason. Multiple doors, integrated into the floor plan, expands your daily living space into the outdoors. It is the definition of indoor outdoor lifestyle.

Our ADU designs are rare, maybe even unique, because we feature a front AND back sliding glass door. In addition, each bedroom has its own sliding glass door. This is an expensive feature, but we think it is worth it.

L Shaped and C Shaped Floor Plan

The L and C shape creates an outdoor room or courtyard and they are a better for our 50′ – 60′ wide lots. Each bedroom has its own entrance opening to the front patio or courtyard for greater flexibility of use.

This is another feature that is more expensive to build because it requires more modules than a simple bar (in the prefab version).
